Rear Camera: 48 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide) Front Camera: 32 MP, f/2.5, (wide) Battery: 1.5 days of use/ 4115 mAh (Non Removable) Display: 6.44" Super AMOLED, Full HD+ Size: 158.3 x 73.3 x 8.2 mm Weight: 184g Memory: 8 to 12 GB RAM - 128GB/256GB Storage Chipset: Mid-High end Qualcomm snapdragon 765G Success Metrics Introduction Exciting News! The OnePlus Nord Smartphone has improved their Performance Score following a recent software upgrade! New Score Old Score OnePlus Nord is a mid-end smartphone identified as a camera flagship. 4 cameras (48+8+5+2) allow to take good pictures but perhaps not at the level of high-end models. The quality of the screen is really good. OnePlus considers that mid end processor should deliver excellent user experience. OnePlus Nord is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G and results are quite good in terms of fluidity thank also to OxygenOS interface. OnePlus has chosen a 4115 mAh to power its originally designed device and we expect this device to achieve a better performance than flagships that would give it a competitive advantage. Testing Results OnePlus Nord gives capability to choose between 2 refresh rates from 60Hz to 90Hz. We have executed ViserMark protocol using the different settings. There is no real impact for the end user using these 2 different refresh rates. Here is below summary of our testing runs. In order to compute the official score ranking we have only selected both 90 Hz and 60 Hz rates. Test Graphic Graphic below shows that choosing 90 Hz or 60 Hz will not have real impact on battery life. Conclusion OnePlus Nord achieves a reserved performance. With both screen settings, it manages to rank a good 1.5 days, this is not enough for a mid-end product. The result is worst than OnePlus 8 Pro. ViserMark tests are performed with the strictest protocol in a controlled environment to ensure repetition and consistency powered and automated by SmartViser’s test automation solution viSer. - Sony L4 ViserMark Battery Life
Battery Life Testing Report Product Experience 2 days of energy with an extra long-life 3580 mAh. The smartphone features a large 21:9 Wide 6.2" display with a multiwindow function Product Features and Specifications Design: Easy one hand operation thanks to 21:9 wide aspect ratio, clean design and slender form Camera: 3, 13MP main camera Chipset: Media Tek Helio P22 Battery: 2 days of use with 3580 mAh battery Display: 6.2" IPS Size: 159 x 71 x 8.7 mm Weight: 178g Memory: 3 GB RAM - 64 GB Storage Success Metrics Introduction Sony Xperia L4 is a low-end smartphone identified with a large screen 21:9 and a slender form and clean design. Despite its large display it is designed for an easy and comfortable one handed operation. The quality of the screen despite its size is not at a high standard and general performance does not meet expectations powered by the MediaTek Helio P22. Sony has chosen a 3580 mAh to power this device. It is risky whereas most of manufacturers are focusing on 5000 mAh battery capacity these days. We expect this device to achieve 2 days of performance that would give it a competitive advantage compared to mid-end range. Testing Results We have executed ViserMark protocol using the only one refresh rate setting available, 60 Hz. Here is below summary of our testing runs. In order to compute the official score ranking we have calculated score based on 2 runs. Test Graphics We were expecting Sony Xperia L4 to rank at least 2 Days as it is a low-end smartphone. It is just over 2 days but anyway over. Conclusion Sony Xperia L4 achieves a good performance. With one of the smallest battery capacity, only 3580 mAh, it manages to rank over 2 days, this is good for a mid-end product. ViserMark tests are performed with the strictest protocol in a controlled environment to ensure repetition and consistency powered and automated by SmartViser’s test automation solution viSer. - Samsung S20 Ultra ViserMark Battery Life
Battery Life Testing Report Product Experience 1.5 days of energy with a battery capacity of 5000 mAh. Product Features and Specifications Design: Wide immersive display Camera: QUAD 108.0 MP + 12.0 MP + 48.0 MP + VGA Battery: 1.5 days of use/ 5000mAh (Non Removable) Display: 6.9" QHD Size: 166.9 x 76 x 8.8 mm Weight: 220g Memory: 128GB ROM and 12GB RAM Chipset: High End Exynos 990 Success Metrics Introduction Samsung S20 Ultra is the most advanced smartphone of S20 series. Available with 2 different high end chipsets, Qualcomm snapdragon 865 or Exynos 990 we have tested here the exynos version. Holding a wide 6,9” screen with 120 Hz refresh rate it is powered by a massive 5000 mAh. Is it enough to give it an acceptable battery life ? Testing Results As Samsung, as on other S series mates, give customers choice between several screen settings parameters so they can balance between battery life and performance, but we are not sure that end users will understand all this easily. When performing our ViserMark protocol we have chosen to test FHD+ resolution with 60Hz which is the default one and 120Hz that increases fluidity. Well Samsung set 60 Hz as default, does it mean that 120 Hz will impact too much on battery life ? S20 Ultra didn’t manage to reach the minimum score to be ranked 2 Days of battery life and it stays in the 1.5 range whatever the selected refresh rate. When refresh rate is set to 120 Hz S20 Ultra will hardly manage to reach 1,5 days without any security margin (Score 157) and things will go better when setting refresh rate to 60 Hz. In this configuration S20 Ultra scores 182 that give 1.5 rating with more margin. Test Graphic We can easily notice impact of refresh rate on battery life between 120Hz and 60Hz. Conclusion A flagship holding a 5000 mAh sounds in a good position to offer premium user experience without any compromise on battery life. But S20 Ultra battery should juice exynos 990 and 6,9” screen with 120 Hz refresh rate. This leads to a S20 Ultra which doesn’t beat any record on battery life and is even hardly offering acceptable endurance. - Realme X50 Pro 5G ViserMark Battery Life
Battery Life Testing Report Product Experience 1.5 days of energy with an extra long-life 4200mAh. The smartphone promises a high speed powered by Snapdragon 865 5G with a 65W Super Dart Change in 35 minutes. Product Features and Specifications Design: Full screen glass sandwich Camera: QUAD 64MP Battery: 1.5 days of use/ 4200mAh Supports 65W Fast Charge Display: 6.44" FHD+ 90Hz Size: 158.96 x 74.24 x 8.9 mm Weight: 205g Memory: 256GB and 12GB RAM Processor: Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 865 flagship platform Success Metrics Introduction While OnePlus is now truly settled on the premium segment some new brands are taking the role of proposing some flagship killers. After 2019 Realme X2 pro is back with its updated generation X50 5G Pro. To fit with the flagship killer definition X50 Pro 5G is integrating the best of components: snapdragon 865 with 5G support, quad camera setup, bezel less design, AMOLED screen with higher refresh rate. While design is fairly nice with some original colors, it is not very original and far from offering exclusive premium feeling. It remains bulky although battery capacity stays slightly lower than competition. So let’s see if 4200 mAh is enough to power master of speed processor and wide 90 Hz display. Testing Results X50 Pro 5G is provides a battery life performance in line with competition ranking 1.5 days whatever refresh rate: 60Hz or 90Auto. This last setting will adapt refresh rate depending on displayed content which is a good way to balance between fluidity and battery life. With a little bit more of fuel it would have reached 2 Days ranking and this could have been a good selling point. Realme X50 Pro did it well on our viSerMark protocol, not beating any record but it will deliver acceptable battery life considering its spec sheet. Realme did provide X50 Pro with another key asset: its (very very) fast 65W charging. With this technology only few minutes of charge will give you extra comfort to use X50 Pro smartphone without restraint. Test Graphics Ending first day at more than 50% will give you confidence, battery will drain a little bit faster on second day. Conclusion Realme X50 Pro didn’t beat any record, at least it managed to power a device including a full set of premium components during 1.5 days which is at competition level. - OnePlus 8 Pro - Battery Performance Score
SMARTPHONE TIER: HIGH Battery Capacity mAh: 4510 Smartphone Battery Performance: Ranking #49 In the lower half for Battery Performance within the High Tier Ranking Table Battery Performance Testing and Review - September 2020 Product With a Battery Life of 1.5 Days of Use, the OnePlus 8 Pro end users can very accurately set display experience. As for every Smartphone offering to change refresh rate we have tested with 120 Hz and 60 Hz settings. 120 Hz (adaptative) is the default refresh rate, this is an interesting point as this means that OnePlus is confident in getting here a good trade-off between fluidity and battery life. OnePlus 8 Pro also allows changing resolution. We have kept the default FHD+ resolution. Indeed when display is set to 120Hz/QHD+ fluidity and browsing/reading experience is excellent but in this case, the Battery Life is highly impacted. With a battery capacity of 4510 mAh, this smartphone is durable by design, with a 120Hz Fluid display and a super-fast Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 865 and 5G. Product Features and Specifications Design: Waterfall Display edges Camera: QUAD 48MP Battery: 1.5 days of use/ 4510mAh Display: 6.78" QHD + with 120Hz refresh rate Size: 165.3 x 74.3 x 8.5 mm Weight: 199g Memory: 128 - 512GB ROM and 8GB RAM Chipset: Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 865 and 5G Battery Performance Introduction OnePlus is known to be first smartphone maker to release a flagship killer. A flagship killer is integrating a full set of premium components, especially the most powerful chipset of the moment. However in order to keep the price below competition manufacturers should compromise on one or several topics: build quality, picture quality, battery capacity, audio performance… OnePlus is not any more a flagship killer. Indeed after several generations of device range, OnePlus has now settled himself as a true flagship maker, bringing also its own innovation. OnePlus was for instance one of the first to introduce higher refresh rate. 120 Hz display is of course available on the latest OnePlus 8 Pro, animated by very smooth Oxygen OS and powerful snapdragon 865. OnePlus has equipped its OnePlus 8 Pro with a 4510 mAh battery. Let’s check if with an impressive spec sheet OnePlus 8 pro can deliver premium battery life. The overall Battery Performance Score is now a global score taking calculations from Battery Life, Power Efficiency and Charging Times. From the OnePlus 8 Pro test results, we have given this Smartphone a ViserMark Battery Performance Score of 46. The Battery Performance Label, being nearer 100 indicates that it is one of the better-performing ones and has been ranked in 49th place of the best Battery Performance Smartphones as tested by SmartViser. Testing Results BATTERY LIFE - Days of Use When at 120 Hz OnePlus 8 Pro, the battery life achieves around 39 hours and it obtains of Battery Life of 1.5 Days of Use. When set to 60Hz OnePlus 8 Pro achieves an interesting result with a battery life achieving 49 hours obtaining a Battery Life of 2 Days of Use. - Sony Xperia 1 II ViserMark Battery Life
Battery Life Testing Report Product Experience 1.5 days of energy with an extra long-life 4000mAh. The smartphone with a Cinema Wide 4K HDR OLED display promises a cinema quality streaming experience. Product Features and Specifications Design: Water resistance and Corning Gorilla Glass 6® on both sides Camera: Triple 36MP Battery: 1.5 days of use/ 4000mAh Display: 6.5" 4K HDR OLED Size: 166 x 72 x 7.9 mm Weight: 181g Memory: 256GB and 8GB RAM Processor: Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 865 Success Metrics Introduction We are always looking forward to receive Sony's new version of their Xperia flagship. Indeed Sony is never following trends and Xperia have their own premium philosophy: iconic design, in house camera setup, premium screen and sound technology. While Sony Xperia flagship range is always integrating premium components it is not renowned for its battery life as Sony is usually choosing lower battery capacity and very high screen resolution. Although this allows to keep a comfortable weight and excellent reading experience it may disappoint end users who expect better battery performance. Let’s check how this Xperia 1 mark II performs on our ViserMark protocol. Testing Results First of all we have enjoyed Xperia 1 II during our testing as its size makes it very comfortable to hold. As well the combination of the snapdragon 865 and high end display offers a real premium feeling. Unlike other flagship competitors Xperia 1 II doesn’t allow the end user to change the refresh rate. This one will remains at a standard 60Hz. Sony is innovating on this topic with a 4K 21:9 cinemawide display. Consequently ViserMark protocol has been executed with default screen settings. As we could expect Xperia 1 II setup doesn’t achieve a good ViserMark battery life performance score. With around 33 hours of execution Sony Xperia 1 II hardly achieves 1.5 Days ranking, with a final score of 153. Test Graphics Xperia 1 II achieved very similar execution time over the 2 runs. Conclusion Sony Xperia 1 II scores 153. This is a low score for a flagship. Xperia 1II integrates all components and features to offer a premium experience and we’ve truly appreciated using it. But unfortunately you’ll need to keep an eye on the fuel gauge.
