CES 2022 - The Key Highlights

At the start of the new year and with events returning in 2022 we hope that many companies can start off on a high note for the rest of the year. Two of the industry major events are playing a key role this year where manufacturers can showcase their latest innovations and announce new products. Let's take a look at the events and the next innovations that we can expect in 2022.

The first event Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2022) was held in Las Vegas, Nevada earlier in the month. There were well over 40,000 attendees in person, including 1800 global media, across 11 indoor and outdoor venues. The show was truly a global event, with 30% of attendees travelling from outside the US – representing 119 countries.

This event is the place to be for companies with cutting-edge technologies who are at the forefront of their fields, producing high quality and innovative products that are paving the way for the future.

Key Highlights at CES 2022

CES 2022 returned to its home, Las Vegas for the first time since 2020 due to the disruption of the pandemic. There were some noteworthy absentees over 75 companies, from this year’s events including T-Mobile, Microsoft, Google, Lenovo, OnePlus who chose the online presence over the physical face-to-face experience.

Here are some of the key highlights for us:

1. TCL’S Second Gen Smart Glasses NXT Wear Air

This is the second version of the limited released supply in 2021 but will be 30% lighter from 135g to 75g. The new wearable display has been called by many analysts “a cinema on your face”. It comes with two 1080p micro OLEDs embedded in glass frames that give the wearer an impressive viewing effect of a 140-inch screen from about 4 metres away. They don’t offer any VR or AR capabilities but allows you to view anything from your smartphone handy if don’t want to hold your phone to watch films or videos. No price announcement from TCL yet but the previous version was around $700.

Nearly a year after the release of the Samsung Galaxy S21 we finally saw the Galaxy S21 FE. Starting price in the UK is expected around £699 for 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage. In terms of Tier, this is expected to be Mid-Range Toer for the S21 family. The device uses the same snapdragon 888 chipsets that other S21 models use. It is powered by a battery of 4,500 mAh which can be charged wirelessly or using a wire. We cannot wait to have the device in our ViserMark lab for full battery testing. Stay tuned.

3. One Plus 10 PRO

The new One Plus 10 Pro Flagship has been announced during the CES event. Sales have already started in China since mid-January and are expected to arrive in Europe and North America later in 2022. We do expect to see the device at the MWC later on in March. The device comes with a 6.7-inch 120Hz Fluid AMOLED display. It also has a cool new feature called “ Dual Colour Calibation” that allows delivering more accurate natural colours in two different brightness levels. It boasts a 5,000mAh battery with 80W SuperVOOC wired and 50W AirVOOC wireless charging. The former can charge in 32 minutes and the latter in 47 minutes. We will be validating this figure in our ViserMark lab once the device is available in Europe.

4. Vivo V23 Pro

A smartphone for selfie lovers it boasts two front-facing cameras with a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide lens for group selfies. Surely it cannot get better than this. It also allows recording videos in 4K mode on the front camera

The device is fuelled with a non-removable Li-Po 4300 mAh battery and has Fast charging 44W capabilities. It does come in various colour options such as Sunshine Gold and Stardust Black. The device is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset, which offers 5G compatibility.

The device is 5G and comes with a 48MP main camera, 5,000mAh battery, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Priced at $239 is surely one of the most affordable 5G devices. It is to launch in mid-2022 and we will look forward to getting the device in our lab to check how this impressive spec and competitive price performs.

Mobile World Congress 2022 Barcelona

Mobile World Congress (MWC 2022) the world’s most influential connectivity event, is back to unleash the full power of connectivity. It is attended by global mobile operators, device manufacturers, technology providers, vendors, and content owners.

What we can anticipate in MWC 2022

MWC 2022 will take place in Barcelona between the 28th of February and the 3rd of March. We are proud to announce that SmartViser the technology company that powers ViserMark will be exhibiting at the MWC at Hall 5 French Tech Pavilion Stand 5B41 booth 22.

MWC is undoubtedly the largest mobile technology show in the world and is expected to open its doors on the 28th of February in Barcelona. There is a lot of expectations that many manufacturers will announce their new devices during that show as CES this year was relatively poor on new smartphone announcements.

Two brands have already confirmed their presence Xiaomi and Huawei. Huawei is also hosting its event ahead of MWC on the 27th of February and it is expected some key products and technology announcements.

Other manufacturers are expected to confirm their plans in the coming weeks.

In terms of new devices announcements, Samsung with its new Samsung Galaxy S22 is rumoured to land sometime in February in time for the event.

There are some rumours that Huawei will unveil a foldable device at the event, and we expect to see more details from OnePlus, with the launch of the OnePlus 10 Pro.

We could also see some new releases from Xiaomi, Honor, TCL, Alcatel, Vivo and ZTE.

Our SmartViser team will be present at MWC checking all the new technologies and new smartphone releases.
