All you need to know about the Crosscall Core Z5 smartphone.

Overview

Crosscall offers waterproof and durable Android phones, smartphones with long battery life and accessories. The Company's phones are created mainly for outdoor activities, and this different approach has been the key to its success and growth.

Launched in October 2022, the Crosscall Core Z5 is the first 5G smartphone specifically designed and developed for the most challenging environments. This device is compatible with the latest networks, such as 5G and WiFi 6/6E, and has an impressive 5-year warranty.

The ViserMark Tiers break down the various pricing of Smartphones. The Crosscall Core Z5

joins the Flagship/Pro Tier (€700+); its rugged design makes it waterproof, durable and equipped with an extensive battery life. Rugged smartphones are not fitted with OLED screens like other flagship devices, nor do they have some of the features expected as standard for the price tag. The Crosscall Core Z5 is no exception and has a 6.08-inch IPS LCD display with only 1520 x 720-pixel quality and a 60 Hz refresh rate. However, the smartphone is equipped with four customisable buttons located on the side panel that allows for convenient shortcuts to frequently used applications, even when wearing gloves. Finally, the X-TALK function can transform the smartphone into a walkie-talkie or be used as a compass or GPS.

The Crosscall Core Z5 is powered by a 2.7 GHz Qualcomm QCM6490 Octa-Core processor with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage capacity, meaning it can handle extreme usage requirements. Crosscall decided to fit a 4950mAh battery that can enable a 20% better performance than similar flagship smartphones. One unique feature is a low-battery indicator light, giving you time to charge the smartphone if required. Also, the reverse charging function allows the Crosscall Core Z5u to charge other devices, such as a flashlight or headphones.

In addition, the Crosscall Core Z5 boast an incredibly powerful loudspeaker that is louder than the average. This makes it perfect for use in even the noisiest environments. Having noise cancellation as standard, you can enjoy clear conversations with excellent listening comfort.

The ample polycarbonate rubber layer encircling the device is engineered to resist falls up to two meters. This explains why the screen occupies only 65% of the front and is shielded by Gorilla Glass 5. Crosscall has also infused the screen, making it resistant to saltwater and other liquids such as chlorinated water, engine oil, and corrosive products. Crosscall Core Z5 is designed with gloves of varying materials, is IP68 rated, and meets the MIL-STD-810 standard, guaranteeing dust resistance.

Crosscall Core Z5 is supplied with a USB-C charging cable and an X-Blocker (This unique support piece, entirely designed by the Crosscall development teams, allows you to attach your device to the numerous X-LINK™ accessories. Only phones and tablets equipped with X-LINK™ technology are compatible with this accessory) and Charger 9V/2A fast charging.

The USB-C and 3.5mm mini-jack ports have plastic tabs to protect them, which provide excellent water resistance without being excessively hard to open.

Smartphone Battery Performance Score

and Battery Performance Results

We have designed and developed Battery Performance Labels to help Smartphone users.

Translated into the ViserMark Labels, the battery performance test results for the device Crosscall Core Z5 are below.

Our experts are asked to test more than 100 Smartphones every year. As an independent mobile phone testing environment, SmartViser measures key areas of user experience.

More details can be found on how we perform our smartphone testing here.

Smartphone Battery Performance Overall Score:

Using various testing criteria, measured using real-life scenarios and live networks, results collated with calculations from Battery Life, Power Efficiency and Charging results that amount to the total score.

The Battery Performance Label shows a score between 0 and 100. It reflects the performance based on independent, repeatable, and rigorous testing.

Crosscall Core Z5 Smartphone Battery Performance Score

In our recent testing, the battery performance test results delivered an overall score of

47 out of a hundred for the Crosscall Core Z5. When viewing the ViserMark Flagship/Pro Tier (€700+) tier, Samsung has one comparable regular smartphone and another rugged device with similar results, as shown in the chart below.

Comparison of Smartphones in the Flaghship/High Tier

The Crosscall Core Z5 obtained an impressive overall battery performance score of 47. As you can see, the comparable Samsung Galaxy smartphones achieved 41 and 34, respectively.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 is a highly advanced smartphone with a user-friendly interface that makes it very easy to use. It has a sleek, modern design with a large 6.10" Dynamic AMOLED display with a high resolution of 2340 x 1080. The screen has a high refresh rate of 120Hz, providing a smoother visual experience when scrolling through apps and websites.

The Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro is a rugged and heavy-duty smartphone. It is more appealable than other smartphones within this area, although it is only shipped in black and has 4GB of RAM with 64GB storage. A 6.3-inch high-resolution display suits it well for viewing photos and maps, providing good contrast and brightness. It is fair to say this has been one of its best features. With increased touch sensitivity, gloves can be worn at all times, and meeting both IP68 and MIL-STD 810G standards, it is ideally suited for field-based professionals or manufacturing

Designed and developed as a rugged smartphone, the Crosscall Core Z5 exceeds expectations when meeting critical environments. However, it has benefited from technology developments, such as improved processor power and the latest compatibility of 5G and WiFi 6/6E.

Battery Life

Battery Life - How long will this Smartphone battery last?

The Battery Life ViserMark Label displays the “Days-of-Use” in both actual days and provides accurate information in hours. It reflects the usage of a smartphone from a full charge.

Crosscall Core Z5 Smartphone Battery Life Ratings

The Crosscall Core Z5 has a battery capacity of 4950mAh, larger than the 4050mAh of the Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S23, with only 3900mAh

From our battery testing results, Crosscall Core Z5 delivers 2 days of usage, translating into 53 hours. This could be helped with its energy-efficient 2.7 GHz Qualcomm QCM6490 Octa-Core processor and 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage capacity. Also, Crosscall states that the battery life is 800 charging cycles and that ultra-fast charging takes 42 minutes to 50% charge.

The Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro is a high-end smartphone (€500-€699). Although it does not have some of the desired features of the regular Flagship/Pro smartphones, like the Samsung Galaxy S23, it can now not compete on battery life performance with newer designed and better developed rugged smartphones, such as the Crosscall Core Z5.

Comparison of Smartphones in the Flaghship/High Tier

A short time ago, ViserMark introduced the Hours metric to the Battery Life ViserMark Label to provide further detail about battery usage; consequently, the Samsung Galaxy S23 and the Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro are much more comparative than previously considered.

Time varies to charge different types and sizes of Smartphone batteries. Expressed in Hours and Minutes.

Crosscall Core Z5 Smartphone Battery Life Ratings

The Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro has good charging performance and an impressive 1:54 charging time, considering its lower battery capacity of 4050mAh and processing power compared with the Crosscall Core Z5 and Samsung Galaxy S23 smartphone charging times.

During our independent testing of charging times, the Samsung Galaxy S23 takes over 1 hour and 59 minutes for a full 0-100% charge with 25W wired charging. Samsung says the Galaxy S23 supports “Super fast charging. Samsung continues to improve charging performance, as seen with the S23 series. However, seeing a 45W charging speed on the Samsung Galaxy S23 would be great.

Crosscall Core Z5 has a long-lasting battery capacity and is lacking slightly behind the other comparable smartphone on charging time performance. Also, it offers no wireless charging functionality. However, with its reverse charging function, this device can also charge other devices, such as a flashlight or headphones.

Crosscall Core Z5 Smartphone Battery Efficiency Results

Calculated using Battery Life and Battery Capacity and expressed in “Leaves", it reflects a rating between 1 being the least and 5 being the most power efficient.

The Crosscall Core Z5 gained a 1.5 out of 5 battery efficiency score when tested. This is higher than the Samsung Galaxy S23 device. However, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro falls short in its performance and has achieved only 0.5 out of 5 as a rating.

There are rumours from Samsung that they are developing a new Galaxy XCover Pro 2, which could mean that Samsung is introducing their first rugged smartphone with 5G capabilities.

ViserMark will be looking forward to welcoming this device to our testing labs.

Should I buy it?

The Crosscall Core Z5 is a rugged smartphone designed and developed for a niche market. It has excellent features that match the requirements of critical environments, provides

high-end performance and is built to last.

Even though it carries a high price tag, it remains very competitive, and with 5G compatibility, it caters to all the demands of a modern smartphone. However, it does lack a little finesse, like display quality and its single camera.

The Crosscall Core Z5 is exceptionally reliable and durable, with a 5-year warranty that makes up for some of its shortfalls.
