Video Review - Soon Available

The Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold represents a refined evolution of Google’s foldable portfolio, combining a conventional smartphone-shaped cover display with an expansive, nearly square internal screen. Instead of radically changing the established design, Google has concentrated on reducing weight and thickness, reinforcing the folding mechanism, increasing display brightness and expanding its AI-assisted software. The result is Google’s most mature foldable to date, particularly suited to photography, reading and everyday multitasking.

At its core sits Google’s Tensor G6 processor, accompanied by the Titan M3 security coprocessor and 16GB of RAM across every configuration. Storage options range from 256GB to 1TB, with the 512GB and 1TB versions using Zoned UFS storage for faster performance. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold provides the power required for fluid navigation, split-screen multitasking, computational photography and on-device AI features. However, the Tensor G6 remains less powerful than the latest Qualcomm flagship processors in graphics-intensive workloads. Demanding games can generate additional heat and occasional reductions in sustained performance, although everyday applications and multitasking remain consistently responsive.

The display configuration is one of the device’s main strengths. On the outside, the 6.5-inch Super Actua OLED cover display offers a resolution of 1080x2342, a density of 399ppi and a practical 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Its conventional proportions make messaging, browsing and social media feel similar to using a standard Pixel phone. Unfolding the device reveals an 8-inch Super Actua Flex OLED display with a resolution of 2076x2152 and a density of 372ppi. Both displays support an adaptive refresh rate of between 1Hz and 120Hz and reach an advertised peak brightness of up to 3600 nits.

The large internal display provides generous space for reading, web browsing, photography and running two applications side by side. Its almost square aspect ratio is particularly useful for productivity, although widescreen videos can appear with substantial black bars. Google has improved the central crease through a larger hinge-bending radius and a thicker glass layer, but it remains visible under reflections and perceptible when moving a finger across the screen.

Design-wise, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold retains Google’s traditional book-style format but is noticeably lighter and slimmer than its predecessor. It weighs 239g, compared with 258g for the previous generation, and measures 10.1mm when folded and 5mm when unfolded. These reductions improve portability and comfort during extended use, although the device remains heavier and thicker than several competing foldables. Its asymmetrical frame and combination of rounded and squared corners maintain the distinctive visual identity of Google’s folding smartphones.

Google uses a new gearless hinge made from multi-alloy steel with a high-strength aluminium-alloy cover. The external display is protected by ultra-durable ceramic cover glass, while the rear uses a matte glass-fibre composite material with a satin finish designed to resist fingerprints and cracking. The internal folding panel incorporates Ultra Thin Glass but remains softer and more vulnerable to pressure and scratches than a conventional smartphone display.

The device carries an IP68 rating, providing complete protection against dust ingress and water resistance under controlled laboratory conditions. This is an important advantage over foldables certified only against solid objects larger than 1mm. Google also claims that the new composite back, strengthened hinge and reinforced display structure make the device three times more durable than its predecessor. However, flexible displays still require more careful handling than conventional hardened-glass screens.

Photography is one of the Pixel 11 Pro Fold’s defining strengths. Its rear camera system combines a new 48MP main camera with an f/1.7 aperture, optical image stabilisation and a larger 1/1.56-inch sensor; a 10.5MP ultrawide camera with autofocus and Macro Focus; and a 10.8MP telephoto camera with optical image stabilisation and 5x optical zoom. It is supported by 10MP cameras on both the cover and internal displays.

The main camera produces detailed, well-exposed photographs with attractive colours, dependable dynamic range and improved low-light performance. The 5x telephoto camera adds valuable optical reach for portraits, architecture and distant subjects, although its smaller sensor can lose detail in difficult lighting. The ultrawide camera provides a broad 127-degree field of view and macro functionality, but its comparatively low resolution makes it less consistent than the main camera. The folding design also allows users to take higher-quality selfies with the rear cameras while using the cover display as a live preview.

Super Zoom extends to 30x, with optical-quality results available at selected intermediate magnifications. Video recording reaches up to 4K at 60fps on both the rear and front cameras. Additional capabilities include 10-bit HDR, Video Boost, Night Sight Video, Macro Focus Video, optical and electronic stabilisation, Audio Magic Eraser, speech enhancement, wind-noise reduction and Audio Zoom. However, the Fold does not receive the more advanced camera hardware or 120x Pro Res Zoom available on the conventional Pixel 11 Pro models.

Google complements the camera hardware with an extensive range of computational features. Camera Looks allows users to customise and save preferred colour, contrast and detail profiles, while Magic Capture analyses recorded frames to identify useful photographs and video clips. Creator Suite adds social-media framing tools, project organisation and an integrated teleprompter. Fold-specific functions include Dual Screen Preview, Rear Camera Selfie, hands-free tabletop photography, Instant View and Made You Look animations designed to attract a child’s attention.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold contains a 4806mAh typical-capacity battery, with Google listing a minimum capacity of 4658mAh. The manufacturer claims more than 24 hours of battery life. It supports 30W wired charging, reaching up to 50% in approximately 30 minutes under Google’s laboratory conditions, alongside integrated 25W Qi2.2 Pixelsnap magnetic wireless charging.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold runs Android 17 and receives seven years of operating-system, security and Pixel Drop updates. Its software provides a clean interface with split-screen multitasking, a floating taskbar, drag-and-drop functionality and an expanded Bubbles system that keeps selected applications accessible above other content. The cover display’s conventional proportions make transitions between folded and unfolded use feel natural, while the internal panel provides enough space to display two full-sized applications simultaneously.

Google’s multitasking implementation is straightforward and easy to use, although it is less flexible than Samsung’s desktop-style multiwindow system. Some third-party applications simply stretch across the internal display, while certain applications and games may not adapt perfectly when moving between screens. The device does not provide a direct equivalent to Samsung DeX and does not support a dedicated stylus, limiting its ability to replace a productivity tablet for users who rely on desktop-style workflows or handwritten input.

Gemini Intelligence and Gemini Nano are deeply integrated into the software experience. Available features include Gemini Live, proactive contextual assistance, conversational voice dictation, Circle to Search, Live Translate and AI-assisted photography and editing. A sign-to-text feature uses the folding format to capture supported sign language with the camera and display the translated text on the opposite screen. However, the availability of individual AI functions can depend on language, region, compatible applications and cloud connectivity.

HiLight introduces coloured LEDs around the rear camera flash to signal incoming calls from selected contacts and visualise interactions with Gemini when the phone is placed face down. Google intends to add message notifications and further capabilities over time, but the system remains relatively limited at launch.

With Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, 5G, stereo speakers, Spatial Audio, NFC, UWB, Thread connectivity, Nano-SIM and eSIM support, USB-C 3.2 and a fingerprint sensor integrated into the side button, the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold covers the essential features expected from a premium foldable. It also includes Face Unlock, the Titan M3 security chip, quantum-safe secure boot, Satellite SOS, theft protection, scam detection and an extensive range of emergency and accessibility functions.

Available in Obsidian and Olive, the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold remains an expensive and relatively conservative upgrade. Its visible crease, substantial weight, limited stylus and desktop functionality, and weaker gaming performance are notable compromises. Nevertheless, its practical cover display, versatile cameras, clean software, IP68 protection and integrated Qi2.2 charging make it Google’s most complete foldable smartphone yet. Its battery results provide an additional point of comparison, but require a closer examination of endurance, efficiency and consumption across individual use cases.

3. Battery Consumption

The Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 were analysed across nine daily activities using SmartViser’s viSer and VWS Analytics Studio. The measurements compare current draw during tasks including social media, calls, gaming, camera use and web browsing.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 records lower consumption in all nine activities tested. The difference is most pronounced during Replay and YouTube, where the Pixel 11 Pro Fold uses substantially more current. Camera use also shows a sizeable gap between the two devices.

The Pixel records its highest consumption during outgoing calls, an activity in which the Fold8 performs noticeably better. Gaming and download/upload tasks also favour the Samsung device. The difference is smallest during social media use, although the Fold8 retains an advantage. Media playback and web browsing follow the same pattern.

A Bar Chart representing the battery consumption of the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8

Overall, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold consumes more current than the Galaxy Z Fold8 across every measured activity. The particularly large differences during video-related tasks help explain its shorter battery life in ViserMark testing, though the activity measurements alone do not account for the entire difference in endurance.

The Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 show different consumption patterns across the nine activities measured in SmartViser’s tests.

A Bar Chart representing the battery consumption of the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold records lower consumption in five activities: social media, outgoing calls, gaming, downloads/uploads and media playback. Its largest advantages appear during social media and outgoing calls, where the Fold6 draws considerably more current. The differences during gaming and media playback are smaller.

The Galaxy Z Fold6 performs better in the remaining four activities: camera use, YouTube, Replay and web browsing. The Pixel’s higher consumption is particularly noticeable during camera use and Replay, while the web-browsing results are closer.

Overall, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold is more efficient in several communication and general-use tasks, but its advantage does not extend across all workloads. Despite drawing less current in five of the nine activities, it achieved 38 hours of battery life in ViserMark testing, compared with 43 hours for the Galaxy Z Fold6. Individual activity measurements therefore provide context for the results without determining overall endurance on their own.

The battery consumption comparison between the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold6, and the Flagship/Pro Tier average reveals a mixed result for Google’s foldable across everyday activities.

A Bar Chart representing the battery consumption of the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold Comparison

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold consumes less current than the tier average during social media, gaming and media playback. It also performs better than the Galaxy Z Fold6 during these activities, as well as during outgoing calls and download/upload tasks. Its advantage over the Fold6 is particularly pronounced during social media and calls.

Other workloads are more demanding for the Pixel. Its consumption exceeds the tier average during outgoing calls, downloads/uploads, camera use, YouTube, Replay and web browsing. Camera use and Replay also draw more current on the Pixel than on the Galaxy Z Fold6.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 records lower consumption than the Pixel in all nine activities tested. The difference is particularly noticeable during YouTube and Replay, while the two devices are closer during social media use. Across the full comparison, the Fold8 records the lowest consumption in eight activities; the Galaxy Z Fold6 holds a narrow advantage during camera use.

Overall, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold performs well in selected tasks, particularly social media, gaming and media playback, but its results vary substantially by activity. Its higher consumption during several camera, video and browsing workloads helps put its shorter ViserMark battery life into context, without attributing the full endurance difference to any single task.

4. Battery Efficiency

In ViserMark’s battery efficiency testing, the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold achieved a one-leaf rating. This matches the Galaxy Z Fold6, sits slightly below the Flagship/Pro Tier average of 1.04 leaves, and trails the Galaxy Z Fold8’s two-leaf rating.

A ViserMark Label for battery efficiency displaying 1 leaf out of 5 leaves for the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold

The Pixel’s results vary by activity. It draws less current than the Galaxy Z Fold6 during social media, outgoing calls, gaming, downloads/uploads and media playback. However, the Galaxy Z Fold8 draws less current than the Pixel in all nine activities tested, with particularly clear differences during YouTube and Replay.

A bar chart displaying the battery efficiency for the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold with other Flagship/Pro Tier smartphones

The one-leaf rating places the Pixel 11 Pro Fold close to the Flagship/Pro Tier average and level with the Galaxy Z Fold6. Its performance varies by task, with lower current draw in some everyday activities but higher draw during camera use and video playback.

5. Annual Energy Consumption

According to ViserMark, the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold has an estimated annual energy consumption of 4.1 kWh. This is higher than the Flagship/Pro Tier average of 3.73 kWh, the Galaxy Z Fold6 at 3.3 kWh, and the Galaxy Z Fold8 at 2.6 kWh.

A ViserMark Label for annual energy consumption for the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold that had an annual energy consumption of 4,1 kWh

The Pixel records the highest estimated annual consumption in this comparison. Its results across individual activities are mixed, it draws less current than the Fold6 in several tasks, but more than the Fold8 in every activity tested.

A bar chart displaying the annual energy consumption for the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold with other Flagship/Pro Tier smartphones

Overall, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold’s 4.1 kWh figure indicates greater projected energy use than both Samsung foldables and the tier average under ViserMark’s methodology.

Who Should Buy the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold?

The Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold is best suited to people who want a familiar smartphone when it is closed and a larger workspace when they open it. Its 6.5-inch cover display is practical for everyday messages and browsing, while the 8-inch internal display gives more room for reading, video calls and working across apps. Google’s taskbar and floating app tools make that extra space useful for multitasking.

It is also a strong choice for people who enjoy Pixel photography and want a foldable with a dedicated telephoto camera. Google equips it with a 48MP main camera, an ultrawide camera and 5x optical zoom, alongside features such as Rear Camera Selfie and tabletop shooting. Reviews praise the flexibility of its camera system, although its results do not consistently match the non-folding Pixel 11 Pro models.

Buyers who plan to keep their phone for several years may value its IP68 dust and water resistance and Google’s promise of seven years of OS, security and Pixel Drop updates. Its Qi2.2 magnetic wireless charging is useful for compatible accessories. These are manufacturer specifications and commitments, rather than ViserMark test results.

Battery endurance is a reason to weigh this purchase carefully. The Pixel achieved 38 hours in ViserMark testing, compared with 60 hours for the Galaxy Z Fold8 and 43 hours for the Galaxy Z Fold6. That result may suit someone who charges routinely, but frequent travellers and heavy users seeking the longest endurance in this comparison should consider the Fold8.

The Pixel is also less compelling for buyers who prioritise a light, thin phone or demanding mobile gaming. At 239g, it is substantially heavier than the 201g Galaxy Z Fold8, and reviewers found that its Tensor G6 handles everyday tasks better than intensive gaming. Its visible inner-screen crease and premium price are further reasons to try it in person before buying.

Ultimately, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold makes the most sense for someone who specifically wants Google’s software, versatile foldable photography and an everyday phone that opens into a tablet-sized screen. Those whose first priorities are portability, gaming performance or battery endurance will find stronger reasons to look elsewhere.

ViserMark VERDICT

The Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold - what's it like to use?

The Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold feels familiar when closed. Its 6.5-inch cover display has the proportions of a conventional smartphone, making messages, navigation and everyday apps comfortable to use without unfolding it. Opening the phone reveals a much larger screen, although its 239g weight and relatively thick folded design are noticeable in a pocket or during prolonged one-handed use.

The 8-inch internal display gives reading, photo editing and multitasking more room. Both screens are bright and smooth, and Android 17 makes it easy to move between apps, use split screen and keep floating windows close at hand. The fold down the centre remains visible in some lighting, and certain apps do not make full use of the near-square display.

The Tensor G6 and 16GB of RAM keep everyday navigation and multitasking responsive. Photography is especially enjoyable on the larger screen: the phone offers a dedicated 5x telephoto camera, rear-camera selfies and hands-free tabletop shooting. It handles casual games well, but reviewers found it less capable than some rival foldables for demanding gaming. Its cameras are versatile, though they do not consistently match those of the non-folding Pixel 11 Pro models.

Overall, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold suits someone who wants the ease of a regular Pixel throughout the day, with a tablet-sized screen available for reading, creative tasks and working across apps. Its polished software and flexible camera system make the foldable format useful, while its weight, visible crease and more limited gaming performance are the compromises most likely to affect daily use.
