Smartphone Battery Performance Score and Battery Performance Results

Smartphone Battery Performance Overall Score: 54/100

The Honor 50 ranks considerable well compared to other smartphones with a Battery Performance Score of 54/100. Both the Xiaomi Redmi 9T 5G with a score of 55 and Realme 8 Pro with 59, remain only slightly above the Honor 50. These smartphones have larger battery capacity, as do the Nokia G10 and the OnePlus Nord CE which have lower performance scores than that of the Honor 50, as shown within the table below.

All the Battery Performance Scores can be seen in the Smartphone Ranking 2021 table.

Being ranked #4 in the Mid Tier Ranking table, the Honor 50 is competitive with other smartphones, all being from Xiaomi. The Honor 50 achieved the same battery performance score as the Xiaomi Pocophone F2 Pro and the Xiaomi Mi 10T, although having only 4300mAh battery capacity slightly less than both the other Xiaomi smartphones.

Battery Performance Testing and Review - March 2022

Product - Good Points

Honor as a smartphone manufacturer has stepped back into the smartphone marketplace once more, after deciding to have a year away from selling smartphones in Europe.

Introducing the Honor 50, it uses Google Mobile Services to enable Android apps to be used easily. Although not a flagship smartphone, it has made an impact within this very competitive Mid Tier.

It offers impressive dual-ring design aesthetics, dual-texture dual-film and dual-coating technology... making it 'Sparkle like Diamonds'. It has been designed with curved displays, similar to expensive flagships like the OnePlus 9 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, so has an impressive appearance. Being the first Honor smartphone to have a 108MP6 ultra-clear camera, it also supports a 32MP Camera, ideal for Multi-video recording

The Honor 50 offers a loudspeaker and 66W SuperCharge, using a single-cell dual-loop design. This helps to reduce impedance and heat, increasing the equivalent capacity of the battery, allowing an extended battery life. So claiming a 70% charge in 20 minutes and 100% charged in 45 minutes. Not bad for a battery capacity of 4300mAH!

Product - Be Aware of Points

There is a loudspeaker, although no mention of additional screen protection, so we can assume that there is no Gorilla Glass on the screen. This smartphone has a good camera, although it does have 2 rear cameras that may not be used or even required. Also, just for reference, a headphone jack is not included.

Overall Battery Performance

With an average price, of just over 359 EURO, the Honor 50 is classed as a Mid Tier smartphone and well equipped with the desired features of the Flagship/Pro smartphones.

It is powered by a Qualcomm SM7325 Snapdragon 778G 5G processor and offers the benefits of WLAN and NFC enabled.

In our testing, Honor 50 achieved the following test results:

Battery Performance Score – 54 out of 100

The overall Battery Performance Score is now a global score taking calculations from Battery Life, Power Efficiency and Charging Times.

Based on the battery performance testing results, this smartphone received a ViserMark score of 54/100. With this score, the Honor 50 smartphone is ranked #11 and has an impressive performance score, and only just outside of the overall top 10 smartphones tested, as seen in the ViserMark Smartphone Ranking 2021/22 table.

When looking at the Honor 50 within the Mid Tier, it has reached into the 50s with its performance score, even with its lower battery capacity. Only a place above with a score of 55, is the Xiaomi Redmi 9T 5G. Although the Honor 50 can compete on performance scores, its Days of Usage are still lacking by 0.5 days. When looking at Power Efficiency the same is reflected here as well.

BATTERY LIFE - Days of Use

Based on the ViserMark test protocol, the Honor 50 achieved a score of 2 days.

The Average Day of Use ViserMark score of a Mid Tier smartphone is “1.9” Day of Use which places the Honor 50 just above the average and towards the top half of the Day of Usage table and gains a ranking of #34 for overall smartphone Day of Usage score.

The best smartphones have a lifespan of 4 days as shown in the table below. You can see that there is a range of manufacturers trying to achieve the Wiko Power U20 4 Days of Usage - it remains ranked #1.

The Honor 50 joins many Mid Tier smartphones that have managed to reach 2 Days of Usage and joins a very competitive area of the Mid Tier, as highlighted below.

The Honor 5 does offer a dependable battery life, although there are more powerful alternatives, therefore is well-positioned in ranking order of #34 in Days of Usage.

CHARGING TIME – Hours and Minutes

CHARGING TIME - Hours and Minutes

The charging time to 100% was just 49 minutes. 66W SuperCharge is available.

The Honor 50 finds well amongst the top ten fastest charging smartphones tested so far, as seen in the Charge Times Ranking table.

Having reached the under 1-hour charging barrier, it joins many of the OnePlus and Oppo smartphone manufacturers, all offering some very impressive and extremely fast charging times. The Honor gained an overall ranking of #9, a good performance, especially for its lower battery capacity of 4300mAh.

The average Charging Time is 1:39 for a Smartphone within the ViserMark Mid Tier.

The Honor 50 storms through with 0.49 minutes of charging time, matching that of the Oppo Reno 4 5G and just nudging ahead of the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro.

This graph shows the charging times as well as the battery Days of Usage. As you can see the Oppo Reno 4 5G and the Honor 50 have the same performance results for both charging times and 2 Days of Usage. Both the Xiamoi smartphones remain in touch achieving 2 Days of Usage, despite having longer charging times.

The Honor 5 does offer an impressive 66W SuperCharge, although there are faster charging times achieved, it does compete well being ranked #9 and making an entrance into our Charging Times Table Top Ten.

POWER EFFICIENCY – 5 Leaf Rating

There are several power-efficient processors, within today's smartphones, that can cope with the growing number of new applications and can support high-resolution displays without compromising battery life.

Power Efficiency is calculated using Battery Life and Battery Capacity. This is expressed in “Leaves", reflecting a rating between 1 being the least and 5 being the most power-efficient.

The Honor 50 obtained an overall Power Efficiency Score of 1.5.

The average score for a Mid Tier smartphone is 1.6, meaning the Honor 50 is just below the average in our power efficiency ViserMark Power Efficiency ranking table.

From the table shown below, we have taken the previous graph showing the Mid Tier performance results of Charging Times and Days of Usage and now introduce the Power Efficiency results.

These are highlighted in green.

The Honor 5 does achieve 1.5 as a Rating for Power Efficiency. It can compete with the Xiaomi smartphones, which both have 1.5 ratings for Power Efficiency as well. The Oppo Rene 4 5G gains better results for Power Efficiency by reaching a 2 rating, matching both Xiaomi Redmi smartphones.

Should I buy it?

In conclusion, the Honor 50 offers many good features and for the battery capacity that it has it achieves a lot. It has one of the brightest OLED panels and a decent camera for good quality pictures. With a dependable battery and a bonus feature of a 66W SuperCharge, it supports Google Mobile Services and comes 5G enabled as well.

Within the Mid Tier area, smartphones find it difficult to stand out above the rest, the Honor 50 could be just one of them, almost exceptional until it gets beaten yet again by a newer, faster or more powerful entry. This smartphone may well be your first choice if prices begin to reduce, giving you more for your money, than the functionality you need.
