All you need to know about the Samsung S23+ smartphone.

Overview

Samsung has recently introduced the S23 series to the smartphone Galaxy range. It comprises the Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra. The Samsung Galaxy S23+ is said to be one of the best mobile phones around. However, it misses out on the 200MP camera and a larger battery of the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

ViserMark has recently tested the battery performance and written a review on the Samsung Galaxy S23. We will test the last smartphone in this new Galaxy series, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, and will soon provide the battery performance results.

The Samsung Galaxy S23+ joins the other Samsung Galaxy S23 devices in the Flagship/Pro Tier (€700+), being the high-end category for smartphones similarly priced

The Samsung Galaxy S23+ sits in the middle of the Galaxy S23 series. It has the same design as the Samsung Galaxy S23, opting for flat sides, unlike the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, which has a more curved display. Also, it has a smaller screen size of 6.6 inches than the Samsung Galaxy 23 Ultra, making it comfortable to hold while maintaining a premium look and feel. However, the Samsung Galaxy S23+ has benefitted from some of the new features of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The Samsung Galaxy S23+, like the rest of the Galaxy S23 series, has a Dynamic AMOLED display with a high resolution of 2340 x 1080. The screen has a high refresh rate of 120Hz, providing a smoother visual experience when scrolling through apps and websites. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, designed to withstand drops and scratches. Having an HDR10+ certification, the display provides a clear and sharp display. Also, the S23+ is certified for IP68 dust and water resistance.

Samsung has switched to Qualcomm hardware, customising the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and taking advantage of the One UI5.1 to deliver a better and more sustained performance for the user. Extra storage is available with the S23+ as it is sold as 512 GB and 8GB of RAM.

With a larger battery capacity than the Samsung Galaxy S23, the Samsung Galaxy S23+ offers a long-lasting battery performance to ensure you stay connected. It is ideal for gaming due to the improved interface optimisation, ensuring smoother performance and navigation. There is 45W wired and 15W wireless charging; although more than adequate, it is not as fast other some of its competitors.

One new feature of the Samsung Galaxy S23+ is the under-display selfie camera hidden beneath the screen. This allows for a seamless and uninterrupted display without a visible camera cutout. Users can also enjoy a refined Nightography camera to easily capture high-quality photos and videos. This feature is also incorporated into the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Ultra designs.

The Samsung Galaxy S23+ runs Android 13 and is available in "fresh new colours" such as Lavender, Cream, Green and Phantom Black. Samsung has also ensured that this mobile phone meets the Standards for Sustainability for Mobile Phones and has been certified to PAS2050, an internationally recognised standard. The Galaxy S23+ is made from recycled glass and PET film, and each phone is tucked into a box of recycled paper and paper-based protective film.

A USB-C cable and a SIM ejector tool are shipped with the Samsung Galaxy S23+. However, the case or screen protector is omitted, so users of this smartphone may wish to purchase these items separately for added protection.

Should I buy it?

Samsung has introduced users of smartphones to longevity. If you still have a Samsung Galaxy S22+ and it is a year old, you are still benefitting from the guaranteed updates to the Android software and security updates. Therefore is there any rush to upgrade to the newer Samsung S23+ smartphone?

However, an incentive is offered to trade in your Samsung Galaxy S22+ with certain providers; this may sway you to upgrade and take full advantage of the new features, including smoother performance, longer battery life, more storage and an improved selfie camera - perhaps it's hard to say "no"

The Samsung Galaxy S23 series delivers on all key performance features, and the Samsung Galaxy S23+ is no exception. Therefore, deciding which model to purchase will be a personal choice regarding usage, specific requirements and budget.
