Xiaomi first announced the Xiaomi 13 alongside Xiaomi 13 Pro in December 2022 in China. At MWC Barcelona, both smartphones were launched globally and are now available in the UK. At first glance, the smartphone offers excellent performance, has a great camera set-up, and has an impressive display. Also, you can expect these great features and specifications to cost less than the Xiaomi 13 Pro. We will test the Xiaomi 13 Pro and deliver the battery performance results soon.

As the latest Flagship device from Xiaomi, the Xiaomi 13 is a serious competitor within the Flagship/Pro (€700+). Building on the strengths of its predecessor, the Xiaomi 12, the Xiaomi 13 is well-designed, sleek in appearance and lightweight, making it comfortable to grip and convenient to use. The Xiaomi 13 has an impressive IP68 protection rating; offering added durability and peace of mind. Also, the high-quality display is larger than the Xiaomi 12, with outstanding brightness and vibrant colour reproduction, ensuring an excellent viewing experience when using different media types.

When Xiaomi published its Sustainability Report for 2020, it detailed the environmentally-conscious measures undertaken by the company. The packaging for the Xiaomi 13 demonstrates their continuous commitment to reducing plastic use for packaging. The smartphone is firmly in place, with only a solid white box with a substantial cupboard. Also in the box is a 67W charger, and the USB Type-A to Type-C cable is included; both are unique to Xiaomi. A TPU case is also packed in the box to safeguard your mobile phone, quite a thoughtful suggestion from Xiaomi.

The Xiaomi 13 offers a camera system co-engineered with Leica. This partnership has introduced iconic features like a 75mm Leica telephoto lens, enabling superior light sensitivity and excellent stabilisation performance, delivering clear and vivid photos and videos. The device also provides several connectivity options, including Wi-Fi. Bluetooth and USB-C make connecting to other devices and networks simple.

Benefitting from the latest and most advanced Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, the Xiaomi 13 provides exceptional performance and efficiency, significantly improving battery life. This device is powered by a 4500mAh battery and is supported by 67W wired charging, 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging. This helpful feature also makes it easy to use the device to charge smartwatches and earbuds wirelessly.

The Battery Performance Label shows a score between 0 and 100. It reflects the performance based on independent, repeatable, and rigorous testing.

Using various testing criteria, measured using real-life scenarios and live networks, results collated with calculations from Battery Life, Power Efficiency and Charging results that amount to the total score.

The Xiaomi 13 achieved an impressive battery performance score of 43 out of 100. Our verdict was reached after testing this device, and compared to similar devices with the Flagship Tier, the Xiaomi 13 was well-equipped. The recently tested Samsung Galaxy S23 scored 41 out of 100, as did the Sony BQ-BQ52, both slightly lower than the Xiaomi 13 in overall battery performance. Take a look at the chart shown below.

When comparing the Flagship smartphones: The Xiaomi 13 was released initially in December 2022, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The Samsung Galaxy S23, powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, was released 2 months later.

Regarding overall battery performance, the Xiaomi 13 has a battery capacity of 4500mAh, and the Samsung Galaxy S23 has 3900mAH; therefore, an additional 600mAh can be found in the Xiaomi 13, contributing to a better smartphone performance by only 2 points.

Battery Life - How long will this Smartphone battery last?

The Battery Life ViserMark Label displays the 'Days-of-Use' in both actual days and provides accurate information in hours. It reflects the usage of a smartphone from a full charge.

The Xiaomi 13 delivers on performance and is reputed for its robust and efficient user experience, which enables quick and seamless navigation through various applications and tasks. With a 4500mAh battery, the Xiaomi 13 remains the same as its predecessor, the Xiaomi 12 and provides adequate daily usage.

Additionally, the Xiaomi 13 has a long battery life, and the ViserMark tests showed 2 days of usage, while the other two comparable smartphones managed only 1.5 days of usage. Therefore, the Xiaomi 13 has around 3% longer battery life than the Samsung Galaxy S23 when considering the hours obtained.

It maximises smartphone performance while reducing the energy it consumes, with minimal impact on battery life.

Calculated using Battery Life and Battery Capacity and expressed in “Leaves", it reflects a rating between 1 being the least and 5 being the most power efficient.

When tested, the Xiaomi 13 gained a battery power efficiency rating of 1.5 out of 5. This is higher than the Samsung Galaxy S23 and the Sony XQ-BQ52, which achieved the same power efficiency rating of 1.0 out of 5.

Annual Energy Consumption

Power Consumption - How much energy does this smartphone use?

All smartphones use energy, and although it is only a small amount, each smartphone varies in consumption.

Our results calculated that the Xiaomi 13 would use 2.9 kWh per Annum; both comparable devices, when tested, showed more usage in consumption, as displayed in the chart below.
