All you need to know about the Xiaomi 13 Lite smartphone.
Overview
Xiaomi first announced the Xiaomi 13 alongside Xiaomi 13 Pro in December 2022 in China. At MWC Barcelona 2023, these smartphones and the Xiaomi 13 Lite also launched globally. However, the Xiaomi 13 Lite is more aligned with that of the Xiaomi 12 series, being more rounded with a slim design and weighing less than the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro.
Based on price, the Xiaomi 13 Lite is classed as a Mid Tier (€200-€499) smartphone and doesn't join the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 in the Flagship Tier. The Mid Tier is among the most competitive, with well-known brands like Sony and Samsung going head-to-head with OPPO, OnePlus, Honor and Realme when releasing devices.
What's it like to Use?
A few similar specifications remain that the Xiaomi 13 Lite retains - the AMOLED 6.55-inch display with 1080 x 2400 pixel resolution and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and has a lower IP53 rating, unlike the regular IP68 ratings of the Xiaomi 13 series.
The Xiaomi 13 Lite has a modern design and takes on a more premium appearance. Being lightweight and compacted, it is easy to hold as well. It provides a good user experience and a great display with fast charging. Also, this smartphone is available in three colours: Lite Pink, Lite Blue and Lite Black.
One drawback is the price, being around €500, which makes the High Tier, and for its functionality and performance, it struggles to compete fully against other smartphones within this tier. Hopefully, the price will drop, and this smartphone will become attractive.
How does it perform?
Compared with its predecessor, the Xiaomi 12 Lite, launched over 8 months ago, there are some key differences. One main benefit of the Xiaomi 13 Lite is its newer chip, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. Being the latest smartphone using this advanced technology, it is more power efficient than the Xiaomi 12 Lite, which the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778 G. powered. As a result, it will provide a smooth user experience, using MIUI 14 and is shipped with Android 12. The Xiaomi 13 Lite also has Dolby Atmos-capable stereo speakers, like the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro.
The Xiaomi 13 Lite has the same triple-lens camera setup as the Xiaomi 13 series. Unfortunately, it misses out on the Leica partnership that has introduced iconic features like a 75mm Leica telephoto lens, enabling superior light sensitivity, excellent stabilisation performance, and clear and vivid photos and videos. However, it does gain another camera feature, a 32MP ultra-wide angle camera with Xiaomi Selfie Glow. This provides perfect lighting that adapts to lighting scenarios.
With an increased battery capacity of 4500mAh, the Xiaomi 13 Lite doesn't have wireless charging but has 67W fast charging like the others of the Xiaomi 13 smartphone series.

Smartphone Battery Performance Overall Score:
Using repeatable and rigorous testing criteria, ViserMark measures battery performance using real-life scenarios and live networks.
The test results are collated with calculations from smartphone Battery Life and Power Efficiency results that total a score between 0 and 100. This is the number displayed on the Battery Performance ViserMark Label shown below.
After testing, the Xiaomi 13 Lite scored 35 out of 100 as a smartphone Battery Performance score. Being classified as a ViserMark High Tier (€500-€699) smartphone, we can see other comparable devices with similar Battery Performance Scores within this tier, as shown below.
Compared to other smartphones within the High Tier, the Xiaomi 13 Lite competed well against the Samsung A52 and Google Pixel 7 for smartphone Battery Performance.
When looking at the smartphone Battery Performance scores in the High Tier, all three comparative smartphones were positioned towards the bottom of the ranking table. The OnePlus 8T leads the High Tier rankings with a Battery Performance score of 51/100, followed closely by 50/100 by the Samsung S20 FE.
The Xiaomi 13 Lite smartphone has features and specifications matching that of the Samsung A52. These include a 4500mAh battery capacity, a 120 Hz refresh rate display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720 G chipset powering it. The Samsung A52 and Google Pixel 7 are older smartphones, and it's a shame that the Xiaomi 13 Lite doesn't quite offer the expected performance and misses out on advanced technology innovations.
Let us discover if our battery performance testing results can show more key improvements. Other smartphone Battery Performance Scores can be viewed as ViserMark Labels in the Smartphone Ranking Table.
Battery Life
Smartphone battery life performance can vary significantly depending on several factors, including the device hardware, software optimisation, battery capacity, usage patterns, and individual settings.
When contemplating smartphone battery life, focus on these areas:
The battery capacity, usually measured in milliampere-hours (mAh), determines how much charge a battery can store.
The Battery Life ViserMark Label displays the "Days-of-Use" in both actual days and provides accurate information in hours. It reflects the usage of a smartphone from a full charge.
How long will the Xiaomi 13 Lite battery last?
ViserMark understands that this is a key factor when considering any smartphone, and we are pleased to announce that the Xiaomi 13 Lite delivered on battery performance. An impressive 1.5 days of use translates into 37 hours between charges.
The Xiaomi 13 Lite has increased its battery capacity to 4500mAh, offering slightly better performance, and it provides adequate 1.5 days of daily usage and matches similar smartphones in the High Tier, as displayed in the chart below.
All three comparative smartphones can last up to 1.5 days, and it must be said that most smartphones in the High Tier can offer adequate daily usage. The exceptions are the OnePlus 8T and the Samsung S20 FE, with 2.0 days of battery life.
With the introduction of hours added to the ViserMark Battery Life Label, it is even easier to see just how competitive the smartphones are regarding battery life performance. Both have a 4500mAh battery capacity, and the Xiaomi 13 Lite remains above the Samsung A52, only separated by 1 hour.
When looking at the Google Pixel range, it is clear to see that the battery capacity has considerably reduced. The Google Pixel 6 was released in Oct 2021 with 4600mAh. With the introduction of the Google Pixel 7 one year later, the battery capacity is only 4355mAh and still smaller than the Xiaomi 13 Lite and the Samsung A52.
Also, Google does state that Pixel’s Adaptive Battery can last over 24 hours – and up to 72 hours when you turn on Extreme Battery Saver; however, this feature disables various features, including 5G connectivity. Our battery performance protocol ensures that we measure and evaluate key areas of user experience, with all default testing performed under strictly controlled conditions without Battery Saver features enabled.
The Xiaomi 13 Lite supports 67W fast charging like the others of the Xiaomi 13 smartphone series, although it doesn't have wireless charging.

Power Efficiency
Smartphone Power Efficiency is crucial for smartphone users as it directly impacts battery life and overall device usage. It refers to the ability of a smartphone to maximise its performance while minimising power consumption.
Calculated using Battery Life and Battery Capacity and expressed in "Leaves", it reflects a rating between 1 being the least and 5 being the most power efficient.
How power efficient is the Xiaomi 13 Lite?
The Xiaomi 13 Lite was awarded 1 out of 5 as a smartphone battery efficiency score. This matches Samsung A52 and Google Pixel 7, as shown in the chart below.
All smartphone chipsets are designed to deliver high performance while consuming minimal power to optimise system resources for improved efficiency. Manufacturers are continuously making minor improvements to balance smartphone performance and energy efficiency. These include the management of background processes and improved app organisation, which enhance resource allocation so power consumption can be minimised.
Other smartphone Battery Efficiency results can be viewed as ViserMark Labels in the Smartphone Ranking Table.
Annual Energy Consumption
ViserMark is pleased to offer a new label providing a smartphone's Annual Energy Consumption. The calculation is typically based on several factors, including the smartphone model, battery capacity, usage patterns, and charging habits. Although challenging, specific testing criteria are measured using real-life scenarios and live networks to reflect usage accurately.
How much energy does the Xiaomi 13 Lite use?
The ViserMark calculations show the Xiaomi 13 Lite would use 3.9 kWh per Annum.
Both comparable devices, when tested, have their usage in consumption, as displayed in the chart below. Although the Samsung A52 is slightly less and the Google Pixel 7 more, once again, the OnePlus 8T and the Samsung S20 FE use even less annual energy consumption.
Daily activities greatly influence energy consumption. For instance, frequent use of power-intensive apps, heavy gaming, or prolonged video streaming can drain the battery faster, resulting in higher energy consumption. Conversely, conservative usage and enabling power-saving features can reduce energy consumption.
Through ViserMark's battery performance testing protocol, end-users can see an objective benchmark across all devices on their smartphone's expected annual electricity consumption.
Other smartphones' Annual Energy Consumption results can be viewed as ViserMark Labels in the Smartphone Ranking Table.
Should I buy it?
The Xiaomi 13 Lite has a great display with a 120Hz refresh rate with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision sound. It has a 4,500mAh battery capacity and 67W fast charging as the standard Xiaomi 13, although there is no wireless charging facility. Being powered by a new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, there are certain improvements in efficiency and performance compared to the Xiaomi 12 Lite.
Having a lightweight design makes the Xiaomi 13 Lite easier to hold. It offers good overall camera performance. Also, ultrawide and dual selfie cameras ensure good-quality images.
The Xiaomi 13 Lite has increased in price since the release of the Xiaomi 12 Lite last year, so justifying the price increase may be difficult for some. Also, much of the competition in the High Tier are older smartphones, and with newer ones expected this year, the prices of these smartphones have also reduced as expected.
As a well-built and reliable smartphone, the Xiaomi 13 Lite offers a small upgrade to users of the Xiaomi 12 Lite. However, if it's the value for money the users are looking for, and they
may decide to stay with the Xiaomi 12 Lite and consider other alternative smartphones expected later in 2023.
