All you need to know about the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G smartphone.

A Quick Summary

Redmi, a subsidiary of Xiaomi, recently unveiled its latest Note 12 Series of smartphones, consisting of four phones: the Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12 5G, Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G, and Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G.

Being known for introducing some of the best budget smartphones, Xiaomi still wants to retain the most important features of a smartphone yet minimise unnecessary extras. Making strides in the Mid Tier (€200-€499) for smartphones, the Redmi Note 12 Series offers features and specifications matching many more expensive Flagship smartphones. ViserMark has tested the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 5G and Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G with impressive reviews. It's the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G's turn.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G is undeniably impressive with its attractive features and specifications. Its solid performance and display also make it a great choice within its price range. Its battery life is also good and reliable, and the 120W fast charging feature is impressive.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G is now a contender among high-end smartphones because of its exceptional 200MP main camera, a premium feature for the Redmi brand. Nevertheless, there are a few downsides, such as the MIUI software being a bit frustrating and the other cameras lacking some support. Despite these shortcomings, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G offers a lot in the competitive Mid Tier range and is worth considering.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G Overview

What's it like to Use?

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G is an amazing Mid Tier (€200-€499) smartphone that offers premium features like a 200MP camera, a 120Hz OLED display, and 120W charging, all for an affordable price. It is sleek in design, making it comfortable to hold and gives the impression of a more expensive phone. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G is available in Midnight Black, Polar White and Sky Blue.

Xiaomi has adopted glass on both the front and back for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G, unlike the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 5G, which only had a plastic back. Although this smartphone has only Gorilla Glass protection on the front, it feels durable and has a good grip. Also, Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G has a matte coating that limits fingerprint smudges, like others in the Redmi Note 12 series.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G boasts several noteworthy features. It includes a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button and a 3.5mm headphone jack. With a 6.67-inch OLED display and a 120Hz refresh rate, users can experience smooth scrolling and easy navigation. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G delivers vibrant colours and deep with the help of Xiaomi's ‘Vivid’ colour scheme, ideal for social media or watching video content. Additionally, the stereo speakers provide good sound quality. However, its IP53 rating only protects against dust and splashes, not submersion, which may disappoint some users.

How does it Perform?

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G uses MediaTek's Dimensity 1080 5G chip. This chip is designed for Mid Tier smartphones and ensures better performance than Qualcomm's chips in flagship devices.

Android 12 with MIUI 14 runs on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G. You might find the pre-installed apps from Xiaomi, such as web browsing, file management, note-taking, and photo viewing, a bit overwhelming on your home screen. There are some useful pre-installed tools and software that you can remove if you don't need them. MIUI's modifications may make the Android user experience less intuitive but remain user-friendly. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G using MIUI 14 has a Security app that provides an extra layer of protection against malware. This app also gathers app settings and privacy features in one place.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G has limited internal storage of only 256GB and no support for microSD expansion. Despite this, it can handle everyday tasks impressively and multitasking. Also, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G has a 120Hz refresh rate that automatically switches between 60Hz and 120Hz, which helps to save battery life. Users do have the option to select a higher rate for an overall better experience manually. A powerful smartphone may be better for those using resource-intensive applications or gaming regularly.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G has a remarkable 200MP main camera, usually found only in the Flagship Tier (€799+) smartphones. It captures intricate details and dynamic range in well-lit environments, producing vivid and natural photos. It can also handle low-light situations without night mode, making it a reliable camera. Overall, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G offers superior camera performance at an affordable Mid Tier price, making it an ideal choice for those seeking high-quality photography.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G has been available since November 2022, unlike the newer phones like the OPPO A78 and Samsung Galaxy A54, released in early 2023.

The Samsung Galaxy A54 smartphone offers a list of attractive specifications, including an impressive AMOLED display with a 1,080 x 2,340px resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, just like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G. Also, this smartphone is the only one in this price range to feature an IP67 rating.

The OPPO A78 uses the Dimensity 700 chipset to support 5G connectivity, matching the Samsung Galaxy A54 and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G, which uses specific chips designed for Mid Tier smartphones and ensures better performance.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G boasts a remarkable 200MP main camera, which is not a feature in the OPPO A78 and Samsung Galaxy A54. However, the Samsung Galaxy A54 offers a decent 50MP triple rear camera setup, fast charging support, and the latest operating system version, Android 13. On the other hand, if you do not prioritise a high-quality camera setup and a lower-resolution display, the OPPO A78 could be a worthy fast-charging 5G option. It is important to keep in mind that there will always be compromises.
